What is ‘Nutrition for Life’?

The nutrition and dietetic service in the Leinster Clinic is provided by Nutrition for Life, which is run by Órla Duffy. Órla is an experienced dietician and member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (INDI). Nutrition for Life endeavours to translate nutritional science into practical information and advice about food through all life stages, as implied in the name, improving both longevity and quality of life. Órla is qualified to treat a wide range of medical conditions with dietary therapy based on current scientific evidence, best practice and based on the individual needs of the person. Nutrition for Life is based in a multi-disciplinary setting in the Leinster Clinic ensuring that clients have access to a holistic and seamless service in their journey to achieve better health or optimise their sporting potential.

How can a dietitian help me?

The nutrition service provides expertise in a wide range of areas including:
  • Weight management- overweight, underweight and weight maintenance
  • Diabetes- Type I and Type II
  • Metabolic Syndrome/Syndrome ‘X’

  • Hyperlipidaemia- raised cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL

What can I expect from the first consultation with a dietitian?

The first individual consultation will take approximately one hour. This will involve:
  • Reviewing current eating, lifestyle and exercise patterns.
  • Taking body measurements (height, weight, % body fat and calculating BMI) with printed body composition analysis provided
  • Enhancing existing nutrition knowledge and skills, to help modify current eating patterns and achieve your goals
  • Written individually tailored nutrition plan
  • Appropriate supportive written dietary literature

How often will I need to see the dietitian?

The frequency and number of follow-up visits will be decided on an individual basis. Follow-up appointments last approximately 30 minutes and will involve:
  • Review of diet, lifestyle and exercise changes made
  • Monitoring of changes in body measurements
  • Opportunity to discuss any difficulties with diet and lifestyle advice
  • Continuing nutrition education, ideas, tips and recipes

Do I need to bring anything with me for the first visit?

A family member or friend is welcome to attend the consultation with you. Anyone on medication should bring a list of their current medications with them. People with diabetes should bring their glucometer or blood sugar diaries with them. Persons referred by their GP/Consultant should bring the referral letter with them. If you normally use reading glasses, bring them with you. It can be helpful to write down any questions you want to ask in advance of the consultation.

How much does the service cost?

  • Initial consultation = €100
  • Initial consultation (Sports Nutrition) = €150
  • Follow up visit = €50
